Rock Solid Investing

"But many who are the greatest now will be the least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then."  Matthew 19:30

We've been talking a lot about surrender at Hill View and this comes from a conviction that everyone's life would be better with Jesus at the center.  However, Jesus being at the center of someone's life is not a one time decision, but rather a life long process called surrender.

In considering this type of sacrifice Peter felt it was his responsibility to speak for the disciples in Matthew 19:27 saying to Jesus, "We've given up everything to follow you.  What will we get?"  Which led to our text which is Jesus' response, "And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.  But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then" (vv.29-30).

If you are looking for a rock solid investment, in other words something you can sell out to, then look no further than a relationship with Christ and a partnership in building His Church.  Peter previously confessed that Jesus was, "the Christ, the Son of the living God," in Matthew 16:16 and in response Jesus promised that on that sold out confession, on that rock He would build His Church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it (v.19).  If Jesus says He's going to build something then you can be assured that is a rock solid investment.

Some may be tempted to say, "If you're calling surrendering everything to Jesus an investment then where is the substantial return?"  To answer that we need to first look at what you say you are giving up or surrendering.  Maybe you gave up some friends that we're influencing you to walk a different path in order to sell out to Jesus, hasn't God given you better friends in their place?  Or perhaps you might want to point to the so called pleasures that you've given up when in reality you've discovered they were nothing more than addictions that were destroying your life.  The truth is as you look back and see how your life has been changed since surrendering it to Jesus it's evident that God has already given you a return on your investment.

However, beyond this life we're living in the flesh now, we know that there is still something better to come for those who are in Christ.  The Bible promises us that there will be rewards waiting for us in heaven.  The Bible promises that heaven will come to earth and Christ will rule and reign, which we will get to be a part of.

Whatever we may value most and struggle with surrendering to Jesus will pale in comparison to what is to come.  I encourage you to make the greatest investment you could ever make and surrender your life to Christ and know the abundant life He promises in return.  This is a rock solid investment you will never regret and will want to share with the world around you.
